Petrus Heitzer

P. Petrus Heitzer O. Carm. (* April 3, 1777 in Straubing ; † February 15, 1847 there ) was a Roman Catholic priest and Carmelite . After secularization, he achieved the re-establishment of the Carmelite monastery in Straubing .

Life

Petrus Heitzer was born in Straubing and baptized in the name of Johann Michael. His parents were Johann Michael Heitzer and Agnes, née zu Brennberg. He made his profession on April 4, 1798 with the Carmelites with the religious name Peter . His solemn profession was the last before the monastery was secularized. He was ordained a priest on March 8, 1800 in Regensburg . On August 3, 1815, he was elected prior . He died on February 15, 1847 and was buried on February 18 in the church crypt of the Straubing Carmelite Monastery.

Re-establishment of the Carmel in Straubing

After the abolition of the monasteries by secularization in Bavaria in 1802, the Carmelite monastery in Straubing was designated as an extinction monastery for the Bavarian Carmelites. Petrus Heitzer was the last Carmelite to reopen the monastery. On June 19, 1841, King Ludwig I approved the reopening of the monastery in Munich . Bishop Valentin Riedel solemnly reopened the monastery on July 20, 1842. Father Petrus Heitzer bears the honorary title “Conservator and Restorer of the Carmelite Monastery”.
