Paul Antonio C. Beeson (born November 16, 1921 in London , England , † July 19, 2001 in Chiltern , England) was a British cameraman .

Life

Beeson came to Ealing Studios as early as 1937 , where he made his debut at I See Ice as second camera assistant under head cameraman Ronald Neame . By the time he was drafted in 1941, Beeson took part in seven Neame films.

After his discharge from military service in 1947, he was regularly employed as a simple camera operator. After Beeson had already photographed a few sequences in films under his sole responsibility, for example in 1951 after head cameraman Geoffrey Unsworth was absent from Schwarzes Ivory due to malaria , he began to work for West Zanzibar for the first time in 1953 as the sole head cameraman. Beeson often photographed adventure flicks and war films in international locations, especially in Africa and Australia , and since the late 1950s he has also often photographed Disney productions.

In the 1960s, Beeson was also called in as a cameraman of additional recordings - so-called additional photography - for elaborate Hollywood films such as My Songs - My Dreams or Stay Away from my wife . From 1971 to 1973 he was President of the British Society of Cinematographers . In the early 1980s Beeson was mainly chief cameraman in second unit teams for large-scale US productions, some of which were produced with British participation.
