action

The rich Belgian Bertram Hammonds has found his way to the plateau and is starting to drill for oil. Chief Palala cannot allow this and resolutely stands in the man's way. When an Ankylosaurus is deliberately killed during the drilling , the chief certifies that there is now a curse on everyone. Hammonds hires Gomez, who survived Challenger's gunshot wound, to get Palala out of the way. Without further ado, the chief is thrown from the plateau. Badly injured, he is found by Malu and immediately taken to a missionary camp, where he is looked after. Challenger, Summerlee and Co. are informed about the events immediately.

Meanwhile, a tyrannosaurus attacks the drilling station and it explodes. The explosion in turn provokes a volcanic eruption. When Challenger and Co. arrive on the plateau with the recovered Chief Palala, it turns out that they are worshiped as a deity. They are expected to stop the volcanic eruption. The entrance closes as a result of an earthquake. In the meantime, Jimmy manages to save a wounded baby ankylosaurus. The animal lost its mother because of Hammond's men. Hammond and Gomez have now reached the locals' camp and want to blackmail them. Now, however, Challenger shoots Gomez and Hammonds surrenders.

Challenger presents its further development of dynamite, which is ten times stronger. He wants to create an explosion that virtually undermines the volcano. Meanwhile, Hammond's men attack the village, otherwise they don't know how to leave the plateau. In the course of the battle, Hammonds assures that he wants to support Challengers team and is freed by Malu. Together with Jimmy, he wants to ignite the dynamite that has been built up in a cave. An earthquake opens the exit and Hammonds wants to escape alone and kidnap Jimmy. However, this ignites the explosion and the volcano goes out. Then the plateau is saved.

Characters

Professor George Challenger and Professor Leo Summerlee are rivals and very different in their research methods. Challenger is someone who takes part in expeditions and does research on site. Summerlee is more of a lecturer and describes finds. Despite differences and a feud in England, they appreciate each other very much on the plateau and work closely together. Edward Malone is a bored journalist who wants to report something exciting. He has been friends with Jimmy for a long time and is also committed to ensuring that Jimmy is allowed to accompany the group despite his status as a stowaway. Jenny Nielson comes from a wealthy house in the USA. She is a hobby photographer and finances the expedition. It replaces the hunter Lord John Roxton from the book.

Prehistoric animals

Representation of the primeval animals

The animals in the film correspond to the approximate state of research from the 1980s. So the dinosaurs are represented slightly stupid. The tyrannosaurus and anatosaurs have a very upright posture and all dinosaurs drag their tails on the ground. It is also claimed that the pterosaurs are the ancestors of birds . Today it is believed that birds evolved from dinosaurs. Both the Pterodactylus and the Ankylosaurus practice brood care in the film .
