Peter Lucius

Petrus Lucius (born August 14, 1590 in Altenstädten; † September 4, 1656 in Rinteln ) was a university printer (Academiæ Typographus) at Alma Ernestina from 1622 to 1656.

Life

Petrus Lucius was born in Altenstädten (probably in the Wetterau or Hohenahr ) in 1590 . From 1621 to 1621 he was a printer in Giessen . In 1622 he was appointed to the University of Rinteln ("Alma Ernestina") as a university printer. Under his direction the so-called "funeral sermons" from 1627, 1645, 1652, 1656 are printed and known. In 1639 and 1659 he prints the works on Horace by Andreas Heinrich Bucholtz . Until his death, he also exhibited his university prints at the Frankfurt Book Fair , most recently a program of 77 books. The university printing house of Alma Ernestina was continued after his death by his wife Agnes.

Lucius married Agnes Bonau (also: Baunag) (1602–1665) on February 21, 1620. The marriage has four children. His son Anthonius Lucius (1635-1704) was a well-known scholar of his time and was from April 4, 1663 to 1670 associate professor at the law faculty of the University of Rinteln.

Petrus Lucius was an important printer of his time. In his print shop, " Processus juridicus contra sagas et veneficos " by Hermann Goehausen appeared in 1630 and " Cautio Criminalis " by Friedrich Spee von Langenfeld in 1631 .
