Petruskirche Niederkrossen

The Protestant Petruskirche is located in the Niederkrossen district of the Uhlstädt-Kirchhasel community in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia .

history

The church stands in the middle of the village surrounded by houses on the edge of a village square in the fenced-in cemetery . The nave of the Romanesque hall church , first mentioned in 1194 , was rebuilt from 1408 to 1498. The three pointed arch windows in the choir are of medieval origin, as are the gray wall plinths.

In 1729 the choir was added to with an octagonal tapered roof turret with a lantern . The interior was given a baroque interior. Oak colors decorated the room. On the wooden ceiling one saw a framed stucco angel with a wreath. The wreath was only preserved. Instead of the angel there is now a representation of praying hands.

The church was repaired from 1892 to 1903 according to Romanesque and Gothic aspects, as can be seen in the red pointed arch frieze below the eaves , the painted drapery openings and building edges, the north-facing sacristy building , the pointed arched openings and the entrance to the church. The windows are not adapted, and neither is the roof turret .
