history
The parish Absdorf is a foundation of the Niederaltaich monastery , which belonged to the manor in the 12th century. It was first mentioned in a document in 1148, disbanded during the Reformation and then looked after as a branch of Stetteldorf. It was only rebuilt as an independent parish in 1783/1784.
The church was built in 1744 on the foundations of a previous Romanesque building from the 11th or 12th century. Badly damaged in a fire in 1821, however, it was restored. It owes its current appearance mainly to a redesign and expansion in 1841. Large parts were torn down and rebuilt. At the same time the tower, which stands on Romanesque foundations on the north side of the church, was raised.
