The Roman Catholic parish church of Antau is located in the municipality of Antau ( Croatian : Otava , Hungarian : Selegszántó ) in the Mattersburg district in Burgenland . It is consecrated to St. Andrew and belongs to the dean's office in Rust in the Diocese of Eisenstadt . The church is a listed building .

history

A church in today's Antau was first mentioned as early as 1390. Before 1402 it was elevated to a parish church. In 1641 a wooden belfry with two bells was put on. During the second Turkish siege of Vienna , the old church burned down in 1683. The church was rebuilt in 1809 and 1810 using older masonry. After a fire in 1853, the church was rebuilt in 1854. In 1898 a church tower was added. A restoration took place in 1966. In 1984 and 2009 the church was again extensively renovated. On January 1, 2016, the Antau parish moved from the Mattersburg deanery to the Rust deanery.

architecture

The church is a classical hall building with a retracted, angular closed choir. A three-story tower with a pyramid helmet is built on the southern side of the nave. In the western porch, the rest of the medieval church tower has been preserved up to the roof height. The anteroom is barrel vaulted with stitch caps . The portal from the 15th and 16th centuries has a cantilever arch . The wrought iron grilles date from the 18th century. Above the three bays of the nave there is a square vault between belt arches that rest on pilasters . The west gallery is triaxial and rests on square supports. A wide triumphal arch separates the choir from the nave. This is grooved throughout . The choir bay is vaulted, while the apse is vaulted.

Furnishing

The former altarpiece, which was painted by Franz Storno from Sopron in 1902 , now hangs on the apse wall and shows St. Andrew. On the left side altar is a bell Madonna ("Eisenstadt miraculous image"). Above the door to the sacristy is an 18th century crucifix. The baptismal font also dates from this time.

The bell was cast by Johann Georg Köchel in Sopron in 1779 .
