The Roman Catholic parish church Buchboden is south of the street in the village of Buchboden in the community of Sonntag in the Grosses Walsertal in Vorarlberg . The the feast of Our Lady of the Nativity of Mary consecrated parish church belongs to the deanery Walgau-Walser Valley in the diocese of Feldkirch . The church and the cemetery are under monument protection .

history

A chapel was mentioned in a document in 1638. In 1657 a larger chapel was built at another location. The former branch of the Sunday parish church was rebuilt in 1687 as a pilgrimage church to the Sorrowful Mother Mary and in 1710 elevated to the parish church. In 1726 (after a fire) the parish church was demolished and rebuilt. In 1904 a restoration took place with Anton Marte .

In 1978 the then Federal President Rudolf Kirchschläger visited Buchboden and the church.

architecture

The baroque central building with a plan of a Greek cross has gable roofs and an east tower and is surrounded to the south by a walled cemetery. The central building with four cross arms has a lower brickwork sign in the west with round arched arcades under a hipped roof. The church has arched windows in flat arch niches on the cross arms. In the east is a polygonal choir with an attached east tower with flat arch sound openings and a pointed helmet. A single-storey sacristy is attached to the south of the choir.

Furnishing

The high altar from 1761 was transferred here from the Bürs parish church in 1903 .

Today's organ was built by the Mayer brothers in a classicist case in 1890 . This was restored in 1960.

Bells

The bell from the first chapel was cast and in 1664 another bell was bought from the Theodor foundry from Lindau . In 1745 another bell, cast in Feldkirch , was bought. In 1903 new bells were installed under Pastor Kalb, which had to be given in 1916 due to the war. In 1924, the Grassmayr company from Innsbruck bought new bells, which, however, had to be surrendered in 1942 due to the war. The bells in the tower today are from 1955. They have been rung electrically since 1968.

graveyard

The cemetery is said to have been laid out on the occasion of the parish elevation in 1710 and a wrought-iron cemetery cross was attached in 1880. In 1903 and 1957 the cemetery was expanded. In 1957 a memorial for the victims of both world wars was also built.
