The Eselsmühle (actually Eselsmühle in Eselstal, also Obere Herrenmühle, Hahnsmühle) is a wasteland on the boundary of the Markt Einersheim market in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen .

Geographical location

The Eselsmühle is relatively centrally located in the Einersheim municipality on the Moorseebach . To the north is Markt Einersheim, and St. Matthew's Church is around 520 m away. To the east is the Secretary Mill on the Moorseebach. The Einersheimer district Am Kühbuck is located southeast of the mill . Separated by the Nuremberg-Würzburg railway line , further mills connect to the west of the Eselsmühle. The district of Einersheim Am Wasserhäuschen is closest to the mill.

history

The donkey mill was first mentioned in 1414. At that time, the Counts of Castell received the "dorffmule" as well as Einersheim. In 1585, Hans Rötz owned the facility as "Herren-Müller". It then appeared for the first time in 1601 as "Esel Mühl". Both names were still in use in 1682, before the "Obermühl" was named in 1698 to distinguish it from facilities further downstream. Between 1752 and 1785 it was mentioned as "Dorfmühl".

For a long time the mill was owned by the Limpurg taverns , who ruled over Markt Einersheim as village lords and leased the mill to inventory millers. That is why it was called Obere Herrenmühle at that time. The name Eselsmühle comes from the fact that the miller also operated the facility with the help of a donkey. The mill had two grinders, one of which was used to grind plaster of paris. Mill operations were closed around 1914. Today the mill is also called Hahnsmühle because of the owner's name.
