The stone mill is a wasteland on the boundary of the Markt Einersheim market in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen .

Geographical location

The stone mill is located in the far west of the Markt Einersheimer municipality on the Moorseebach . Markt Einersheim itself rises to the northeast, the train station on the Nuremberg – Würzburg railway line is closest to the stone mill. To the west there are more mills on the Moorseebach: The Schwarzmühle , the district Am Wasserhäuschen and the Eselsmühle are located here. In the south, the municipality of Iphofen begins with the Mönchsondheim district . The wasteland lies on the Franconian Marienweg .

history

The name of the mill refers to the natural conditions in the area and the economic use of the building. The prefix stone indicates the rich gypsum deposits in the Hellmitzheim Bay . Instead of grain, plaster of paris was ground to dust. The mill was the only one of its kind on the Moorseebach and was therefore seldom divided between several gentlemen, as was the case with other mills.

The stone mill is one of the older mills on the Moorseebach. It was mentioned as early as 1414. At that time a line of the von Hohenlohe family died out and the possessions around Markt Einersheim were divided between the Limpurg family taverns and the Counts of Castell , although the "stone mule" remained in the hands of both sexes. In 1599 Paulus Hoffmann was named Müller.

During the Thirty Years' War Markt Einersheim and the surrounding area suffered from the troops of the Swedes and the Imperial troops. Like Speckfeld Castle in the area, the stone mill was burned down by the soldiers. The facility was only rebuilt in 1701. The initiator was the village master Georg Eberhard Schenk von Limpurg-Speckfeld , who also owned the mill. In the 19th century the stone mill came into private hands.
