Wolfgangthal is a locality in the Wolfgangsee region of the Salzkammergut in Upper Austria as well as the cadastral municipality of the municipality of St. Wolfgang in the Salzkammergut in the Gmunden district .

geography

Wolfgangthal is located a good 35 kilometers east of Salzburg , around 7 kilometers west of Bad Ischl , right on the border between Salzburg and Upper Austria.

With 3318.09 hectares, the area covers  the entire eastern half of the municipality of St. Wolfgang in the Wolfgang- / Ischltal , from the Schwarzenbach (Moosbach) - the outflow of the Schwarzensee - to the Grenzgraben , the municipality border with the city of Bad Ischl. The Ischler Ache (Ischl) forms the southern border .

The cadastral area includes - out of the valley - the villages Mönichsreith , Graben , Rußbach , Radau , Weinbach , Windhag and Wirling (the place Aschau is already part of the Haiden district of Ischl ). That is around 550 addresses with 1600 inhabitants, a little more than half of the community's citizens. The cadastral community largely corresponds to the counting district Rußbach-Weinbach , Mönichsreith is still recorded at St. Wolfgang i.Salzkammerg .

The area stretches to the left in the valley up to the mountains of the Schafberggruppe , and includes the depression around the Haleswiessee . It leaves out the Schwarzensee and the Moosalm, which belong to the cadastral community of St. Wolfgang . To the north, Breitenberg  ( 1412  m above sea level ) and Fachbergsattel (approx.  900  m above sea level ) form the border, west to St. Gilgen , and thus also the state border ( Atterseer parts of this municipality), then to Steinbach . To the east, the border runs across the north-south ridge of the Leonsberg (Zimnitz , summit  1745  m above sea level ).
