The Schwarzenbach , as a whole, but especially on the upper reaches, also Moosbach , is a small stream near Sankt Wolfgang in the Salzkammergut in Upper Austria . It drains the Schwarzensee on the Schafberg .

Landscape and run

The approximately 7½ km long brook rises in the wetland of the Moosalm , at the eastern foot of the Schafberg, in the saddle of the Schafberggruppe to the Leonsberg (Zimnitz) , south of the southern bank of the Attersee .

It forms in the 70  hectares large flat and bog Moosalm on the 770- 740  m above sea level. A. On the northern edge of the Moosalm at the Moosalmstube is the saddle (Kote  772  m above sea level ), the moat then already goes to the Attersee near Burgbachau . The Schwarz- / Moosbach runs south to the Wolfgang- / Ischltal . In the southern area of the Moosalm it takes up the Breitenbergbach (Breitenberggraben) from the Breitenberg  ( 1412  m above sea level ).

The stream then reaches the Grafenalm (with Bacherlalm), here comes the Aschergraben from the Schafberg, below the Mönichsee on the Törlspitz (this stream is also known as the Schwarzenbach). South this Alm opens the Schwarzen- / moss stream in the Schwarzensee  ( 714  m above sea level. A.   ), a 1½-kilometer lake. This upper course in particular is called Moosbach .

The Hofalmbach from the Vormauerstein also flows into the Schwarzensee as a feeder. At the Schwarzensee-Gasthaus the stream leaves the lake again ( ). It runs through a 1½ kilometer long gorge valley between Strubeck  ( 850  m above sea level ) and Lugberg  ( 926  m above sea level ). The Wirersteig leads along this gorge as direct access to the Schwarzensee. At the exit of the gorge is the power house of the Schwarzensee small power station, which uses the lake as a storage facility.

At Schwarzenbach the brook enters the valley floor of the Wolfgang valley and passes the Bürgl [stein] to the east. It flows into the localities of Bürglstein / Mönichsreith and Seethurn , below St. Wolfganger Straße ( L546A / L116 , Strobl - St. Wolfgang) at 537  m above sea level. A. from the left into the Ischler Ache (Ischl) . The latter forms the state border with Salzburg there . The Tiefenbach flows directly above .

Geology and nature

Schwarzenbach

The area at the upper Schwarzenbach / Moosbach, the Schwarzensee basin, is a depression milled out by the Wolfgangsee glacier in its branch of the Atterseegletscher .

At the level of Schafberg and Vormaueralm as well as the summit plain of Spitzeck, courtyard wall and width mountain on to 1300- 1400  m above sea level. A. , is probably the oldest valley floor in the Wolfgangsee area. The Strubeck – Lugberg –Gartenwand mountain range , at around 800–900  m above sea level. A. , probably represents a younger valley floor level. When the ice flow later became weaker, the supply of the Atterseegletscher collapsed, the periglacial Wolfgangsee glacier only deepened the main valley, so that the drainage of the Schwarzensee basin - and also the Haleswiessee basin to the east (this lake itself is a Karstpolje) - collapsed through the old soil.

The area of the Attersee watershed is the Hirlatz formation , that of the Schwarzensee basin is Plattenkalk , that of the Plassenkalk gorge .

Moosalm and Schwarzensee are nature reserves. The first area is a post-glacial silting moor, the Schwarzensee is over 50 m deep.
