The Roman Catholic parish church Edelstal is located in the municipality Edelstal ( Hungarian Nemesvölgy ) in the district of Neusiedl am See in Burgenland . It is consecrated to the holy King Stephan and belongs to the Deanery Neusiedl am See in the Diocese of Eisenstadt . The church is a listed building .

history

The church was officially elevated to a parish church in 1774. The current building was built in 1740 and expanded around 1780. Restorations took place in 1838 and 1972.

architecture

The church is a large hall building with a large south-west facade with a curved gable . Above the concave central axis is a tower with an onion helmet and lantern, which was renewed in 1968. The choir is drawn in and closed flat. On the lintel of the sacristy to the north of the church, the inscription reads Ecclesia 1838 restaurata (Latin: 'The church was restored in 1838').

The church has two bays with a square vault . In between, a double belt arch rests on mighty pilasters . There are stepped shield arches above the deep window niches. A wide throat runs between the nave and the vaulted gallery or choir bay . The narrow gallery rests on a pressed arch and is vaulted under barrel vaults with stitch caps. A flat belt rests on pilasters between the choir yoke and the apse vault.

Furnishing

The high altar from the former Augustinian convent in Eisenstadt was created in the first quarter of the 18th century and transferred to this church in 1792. In 1819 it was restored and rededicated. This columned altar has a heavy and dark top made of split gables . There are two female saints above the side portals . The altarpiece with Saint Stephen of Hungary was created in the first quarter of the 19th century and restored in 1973. The pulpit from the third quarter of the 18th century is decorated with Rococo ornaments. The font is from the 18th century; a bell was cast by Josef Golner in Pressburg in 1821 .
