The parish church Frauenburg stands at the ruins of Frauenburg in the market town of Unzmarkt-Frauenburg in the Murtal district in Styria . The Roman Catholic parish church consecrated to St. James the Elder belongs to the Judenburg deanery in the Graz-Seckau diocese . The church and the cemetery are under monument protection ( list entry ).

history

In 1309 a parish was mentioned in a document. The crypt and parts of the upper church are Romanesque . Before 1447 the choir was rebuilt under the von Stubenberg family. The nave was later redesigned in Baroque style. In 1975 the exterior was restored.

architecture

The main choir with a five- eighth closure has a vault with Brinsta ribs with a round keystone with a relief angel. The yoke of the main choir, as well as the two side choirs of equal length, are open to each other and to the nave with arched arcades and vaulted with longitudinal barrels, the side choirs have a straight end. The window in the north choir has tracery, another tracery window in the choir is walled up, all other windows, including in the nave, are baroque.

The wide two-bay nave has groin vaults on girders on wall pillars. The gallery with a curved parapet extends in the north to the east yoke.

Furnishing

The high altar with ribbon and acanthus ornament was made around 1735/1736 in Judenburg in the workshop of Balthasar Prandtstätter .
