Parish church Grafendorf near Hartberg
The Roman Catholic parish church Grafendorf is located in Grafendorf in the market town of Grafendorf near Hartberg in Styria . The Archangel Michael parish church belongs to the Hartberg deanery in the Graz-Seckau diocese and is a listed building .
history
The church was first mentioned in a document in 1158. From the medieval building, the basement of the tower, the end of the choir and the foundation walls of the nave have been preserved. The current church was built in the first quarter of the 18th century through a renovation. 1950 and 1964 were renovations. In 1980 the facade was restored.
architecture
The church with a triangular bent gable on the western front has a circumferential pilaster structure . The two- bay nave has a square vault . In the second yoke, chapels are built on both sides, the left chapel from 1717 being a burial place of Count Auersperg . The walled organ loft has a vaulted wooden parapet, the retracted two-bay choir has an elliptically rounded 3/8 end on the inside. To the north of the choir is the sacristy with an oratory above , to the south of the choir is the tower with a helmet from 1877.
There are three baroque tombstones of the Trauttmansdorff family , who died in 1650, 1669 and 1689, and one of the tombstone of Count Wurmbrand , who died in 1704.
Furnishing
The high altar from 1878 bears figures from the early 18th century and shows the image of St. Michael. The side altars from 1881 bear some figures from the middle of the 18th century on the right. The pulpit is from 1800, the popularly designed Stations of the Cross are from 1800.
Kreuzkapelle
The chapel in front of the parish church is the former cemetery chapel. The square room under a groin vault has a retracted altar apse. Johann Cyriak Hackhofer (1724) painted the frescoes depicting the Four Last Things . Two Roman stones from the 2nd century can be seen in front of the Kreuzkapelle.
Rectory
The rectory, a two-story, baroque building from the first half of the 18th century, shows itself with plastered fields and a ground floor ashlar. Two stone angels from the 17th century are attached to the enclosure.
