The parish church Hohentauern , also parish church St. Bartholomä am Hohen Tauern , stands on the Triebener Tauernhöhe in the village of Hohentauern in the uppermost Pölstal , in the municipality of Hohentauern , district of Murtal in Styria . The Roman Catholic parish church consecrated to the Apostle Bartholomäus - incorporated into the Admont Abbey - belongs to the Admont deanery in the Graz-Seckau diocese . The church and the cemetery are under monument protection ( list entry ).

history

The previous church was built in the 14th century, it was first mentioned in 1363. She was a pastoral care office for the parish of St. Lorenzen , the Admont mother parish of the Paltental . The vicars , later missionaries , were in the former, from Maximilian Wende 15./16. The archducal forester's house, called Kaiserhaus , was built in the 18th century , then the old rectory (today Gasthof Daxler ), housed on the shoulder height .

The choir was rebuilt around 1490. The vicariate was formally established in 1760. The rectory was not built in the village until the early 19th century. In 1892 the church was raised to an independent parish.

In 1956 the interior of the church was restored.

Since the 2000s, St. Bartholomä has been part of the Trieben –Hohentauern– St.Lorenzen parish in the Paltentale .

architecture

The church is surrounded by a walled cemetery.

The two-aisled, two-and-a-half-bay nave hall with a groin vault on rectangular pillars has round-arched and rectangular windows. There is a west gallery. The late Gothic south portal is rounded. Behind the constricted, ogival front arch, a single-yoke choir with a five-eighth end with ogive windows and a ribbed vault on partially capped semicircular services is attached. The round keystone in the choir vault shows the Admont monastery coat of arms. The late Gothic sacristy extension in the southern corner of the choir is vaulted with a pointed barrel and has a round arched portal with a Gothic iron door. The west tower has coupled arched windows and an onion helmet from the 17th century. The roofs are covered with wooden shingles.

In 1956, frescoes by the master von Schöder were uncovered inside the church. They show the building inscription 1492 in the choir at the end of the choir and ornaments with flowers and tendrils in the vault, the Last Judgment on the north wall of the choir , next to it the crucifixion of Christ largely destroyed by a window opening , in the inclined choir Christ on the Mount of Olives . The frescoes in the nave vault show tendrils and two medallions Bartholomäus and Katharina and on the west wall the year 1497.

Furnishing

The high altar around 1750 has remarkable carvings, which were ascribed to Josef Thaddäus Stammel , especially impressive is Joachim lifting his right hand in a state of inner excitement and Anna happily accepting the message . The high altar angel and some figures were stolen in 1974.

The pulpit is baroque. Pictures of the evangelists were made in the 19th century.

A bell from the 15th century is from the workshop of Hans Mitter.
