The parish church Maishofen is in the center of the municipality Maishofen in the district of Zell am See in the state of Salzburg . The Roman Catholic parish church , consecrated to the feast of the birth of the Virgin Mary , belongs to the Saalfelden deanery of the Archdiocese of Salzburg . The church is a listed building ( list entry ).

history

The parish was founded in 1894.

The previous church was built in 1863, consecrated in 1870 and demolished in 1992. The new building of the modern nave according to the plans of the architect Gernot Kulterer was consecrated in 1993.

architecture

The new church from 1992/1993 has a lens-shaped oval floor plan of the nave with a vaulted gable roof. The Gothic tower of the previous church was preserved, the facade is stone-visible, it has a pointed gable helmet. Above the entrance portal, the sculptor Josef Zenzmaier created a relief from Untersberg marble depicting Mary with the child and Christ crucified, including Mary Magdalene , as well as mourning people as a group of pilgrims with the ladder of charity, the lamb as a symbol of willingness to make sacrifices and the book as a symbol of the intellectual.

The interior design of the church respects the furnishings adopted from the previous church. The nave has a suspended, floating-looking fanned wooden ceiling made of spruce wood and a floor made of finely cut sandstone. A large window gives the room brightness and a view of the linden tree in front of the elementary school and the swallow wall of the community's local man. A vertical incision shows the tower standing by.

The glass painting of the windows in the weekday chapel was created by the painter Richard Hirschbäck in Schlierbach Abbey.

Furnishing

The baroque high altar, created in Munich in 1713 and transferred here from the chapel of Kammer Castle in 1863 , carries the crowned Mother of God with a child with a cross stick which a snake pierces in the middle between columns. The high altar is flanked at the side by the console statues Rupert von Salzburg and Virgil von Salzburg .

Halfway up the incision to the tower hangs the Passion Altar created by Anton Faistauer 1918/1919, in the middle picture the lamentation of the death of Jesus Maria and Maria Magdalena with three disciples, the side wings show the mercy, on the left Martin von Tours, who shares his cloak, becomes on the right Sebastian's wounds dried, closed, the altar shows two women as mood images of despair and hope.

Folk altar and ambo, the church stalls and the gallery made of light maple wood were created during the construction period.

The new organ was built by Orgelbau Lenter. The previous organ from 1889 by Mauracher was transferred to the Franciscan monastery in Kitzbühel.
