Sanctuary

Sanctuary

The sanctuary is relatively small because it forms the first floor of the tower. A hemispherical dome sits on the cylindrical base. Daylight falls indirectly into the chancel through five stabbed caps so that there is no glare. Two ogival niches are only indicated as windows for reasons of symmetry. The 8th reveal could not be carried out because the access to the tower is from the attic at this point. A look into this dome shows the architect's skill. The guides for the bell ropes, which used to be rung by hand, can still be seen in the blind stitch caps.

The chancel opens to the nave through a large round arch, which is decorated with a colorful vine (artist: Angermaier, Munich). It grows out of stylized roots. About the vine one reads: VENITE ADOREMUS! - Come on, let's worship!
