The parish church of Pottschach is located in the village of Pottschach in the municipality of Ternitz in the Neunkirchen district in Lower Austria . The Roman Catholic parish church , consecrated to St. Dionysius of Paris , belongs to the dean's office in Neunkirchen in the vicariate under the Vienna Woods in the Archdiocese of Vienna . The church with the fortified cemetery is a listed building ( list entry ). The parish church forms a building ensemble with the rectory and Pottschach Castle .

history

There was probably a church in Pottschach as early as the Carolingian era . Remnants of the wall of this old church were probably used for today's church building. The election of St. Dionysius as church patron also points to the Carolingian era.

The 25 m high tower was built between 1520 and 1526. During this time the walls of the main nave were raised and the ribbed vaulting that still exists today was created. Thus the church had its present appearance in 1526, apart from a few additions.

An organ gallery was probably built in the 16th century . The choir staircase for this was in the church until 1853 when it was replaced by a stone one on the outside wall of the church.

In the 17th century the women's chapel and the sacristy were added and the baroque style of the church began. For this purpose, the altars were replaced and the previously large pointed arched stained glass windows were replaced by small windows located high on the wall.
