history

The year 1500 is known for the construction of a chapel and the year 1504 as the chaplaincy and branch of Au . After a new church was built in 1682, Schoppernau was elevated to an independent parish by decree of December 5, 1682 by the Bishop of Constance . Today's parish church consists of a baroque nave with a retracted choir under a shared saddle roof with a church tower in the north with an onion dome and a sacristy under a pent roof in the east of the tower and was built by the architect Josef Brenner in 1710 and consecrated in 1717. In 1796 the church was redesigned by the plasterers Josef Anton Natter , Josef Simon Moosbrugger and Franz Michael Felder . The church was enlarged from 1956 to 1957 according to the plans of the architect Kaspar Albrecht and supplemented with the installation of an organ gallery.

Church building

The porch of the church with a flat wooden beam ceiling was designed by Kaspar Felder. There is a war memorial with a relief of a dying warrior after a model by Gebhard Moosbrugger and made by K. Hiller from Bezau in 1924, a memorial stone to Jakob Felder (–1924) with a portrait bust of Kaspar Albrecht and a priest memorial stone from 1883. Im The choir and nave are frescoes by the painter Johann Gaißenhoff (Geisenhoff) from Pfronten from 1796, on the choir bay two medallions by Johann Kärle from 1882, on the left choir wall St. Petrus Canisius by the painter Anton Marte from 1928. The stained glass of the windows in the choir, left St. Anna with Maria , on the right St. Joachim and St. Joachim , are from the Schnitzler glass painting company in Dornbirn.

Furnishing

The high altar from 1763 bears the altar paintings St. Philip and James and God the Father by the painter Claudius Schraudolph from 1881. A crucifix and the church portal with the relief of Moses and a burning bush by the sculptor and carpenter Gebhard Moosbrugger are from 1895. The bench docks are made by the master carpenter and cabinet maker Kaspar Felder from Schoppernau the year 1910. The tabernacle with two angels is by the sculptor and carpenter Christian Moosbrugger from 1928. In the choir on the wall is a memorial with a profile portrait of the writer Franz Michael Felder .

organ

The church received the first organ with 14 registers from Severin Eckart v. Stiefenhofen. In 1891, organ builder Anton Behmann von Schwarzach created a new mechanical organ with 11 registers. Today's organ with 26 registers from Orgelbau Rieger is from 1981. The carving work on the organ and the design and execution of the gallery parapet was carried out by Kaspar Felder.

Bells

The four steel bells in the tower were cast by the Böhler works in Kapfenberg in 1920 . They sounded in the notes a 1 , c sharp 2 , f sharp 2 , a 2 and were named Phillipus, Maria, Jakobus, Peter.

In 1920, the steel bells replaced the bronze bells of the parish church in Schoppernau, which were delivered during the First World War . This temporary solution lasted for almost 100 years. At the beginning of May 2019, the steel bells were lowered and new bronze bells were consecrated by Bishop Benno Elbs on May 30, 2019 ( Ascension Day ) . These four bronze bells were made by the Grassmayr bell foundry in Innsbruck .
