The parish church of St. Leonhard am Hornerwald is dominant in the market town of St. Leonhard am Hornerwald in the Krems-Land district in Lower Austria . The Roman Catholic parish church , consecrated to St. Leonhard of Limoges , belongs to the deanery Horn in the diocese of St. Pölten . The church and the cemetery are under monument protection ( list entry ).

history

The church was rebuilt from 1759 and consecrated in 1777.

architecture

The monumental, late baroque church building is surrounded by a cemetery. A retracted, arched, closed choir adjoins the nave . The sacristy is built on the north side. A three-story tower with clock gables and an onion helmet was presented to the west facade.

The interior of the church consists of a long house with a flat ceiling, which rests on pilasters and a surrounding cornice. The three-axis arched west gallery stands on pillars. The square-vaulted choir yoke ends with an apse conche. The neo-baroque, pseudo-architectural wall paintings from around 1928 depict the four evangelists in the corner cartouches of the nave ceiling and the coat of arms of the Hoyos family in the middle of the ceiling . In the choir in the choir is the adoration of the Lamb of God by spiritual and secular estates as well as Saint Leonhard, Florian and Johannes Nepomuk as intercessors. The glass paintings from 1896 show St. Joseph, Mary with child, St. Florian and St. Vitus.

Furnishing

The high altar from the years 1907/1908 was created by the sculptor Michael Plakolb and consists of a splendid neo-baroque altarpiece with columns and pilasters. It is decorated with putti on the side of the canopy tabernacle. The central statue of St. Leonhard is flanked by figures of the apostles Peter and Paul . A bust of God the Father placed in the extract . The side altars were created in 1901 by the sculptor Leopold Hofer as simple neo-baroque columned retables with essays, the left side altar bears the figure of Maria Immaculata , the right side altar Joseph with child . The neo-baroque pulpit from 1909 stands on a pedestal with reliefs Church Fathers and Christ, on the sound cover John the Baptist , created Michael Plakolb.

The organ was built by the Mauracher brothers in 1934.
