Life

Haerdtl was the son of the Gastein spa doctor Freiherr August von Härdtl (1822–1901). He graduated from high school in Salzburg , studied law at the Universities of Heidelberg and Vienna , and entered civil service in the Salzburg Lieutenancy in 1881. He later moved to the Imperial and Royal Ministry of the Interior in Vienna, took over the management of the legislative section in 1905 and was appointed section head in 1914 . Among other things, he was responsible in the ministry for the preparation of the electoral reform of 1906. From November 15, 1908 to January 9, 1911, Haerdtl was more Austrian in the Bienerth government Minister of the Interior.

In the Bohemian language dispute between German and Czech interests, Haerdtl was clearly on the side of the Germans. This concerned in particular the rights of students at the University of Prague and the question of the official German language. After the ministerial office he still functioned as Senate President and in 1916 second President of the Administrative Court .

His grave is in the Hietzinger Friedhof .
