Wenzel von Zaleski (politician)

Count Wacław Michał Artur Zaleski (born June 28, 1868 in Lemberg , † December 24, 1913 in Martinsbrunn near Meran ) was an Austro-Hungarian conservative politician and lawyer. He was Minister of Agriculture and Finance Minister on several occasions (including in the government of Richard von Bienerth ). He was also chamberlain to Emperor Franz Joseph I and a real privy councilor, member of the Vienna State Council and large landowner.

Life

Zaleski was the son of Filip Ritter von Zaleski (1836–1911) and Countess Aleksandra Suchodolska. After the Franz Joseph High School in Lemberg, Wenzel studied law at the universities of Vienna (1885–1887, 1888–1889) and Lemberg (1887–1888).

In 1890 he began his civil service career, in 1903 he was head of the presidential office of the Lieutenancy in Lemberg, and in 1907 he was section head in the Ministry of Agriculture. At the beginning of 1911 he became minister without portfolio (Galicia), in November 1911 he was also head of the agriculture ministry. From November 19, 1911 to December 24, 1913 he was Minister of Finance (since October 8, 1913, on sick leave) in the Stürgkh Ministry .

From 1912 to 1913 Zaleski was a member of the Galician state parliament.

In 1893 von Zaleski inherited the Ostapie estate (Skałat district, Galicia) from his uncle Zygmunt Freiherr von Romaszkan.

With his wife Aleksandra, née Countess Mycielska, he had children: Aleksander Filip Józef , Roman Franciszek Feliks, Maria Marietta Anna, Elżbieta Izabela Maria and Teresa Antonina Maria.
