Rudolf Freiherr Schuster von Bonnott (born April 12, 1855 in Pest , Hungary, † May 31, 1930 in Vienna ) was a Hungarian-Austrian civil servant, banker and politician.

Life

Rudolf Schuster von Bonnott was the son of the Hungarian university professor Ferdinand Schuster von Bonnott . Schuster attended the Schottengymnasium in Vienna and then studied law at the University of Vienna .

In 1877 he began in the civil service as a trainee in the financial procurator and in 1882 was department head in the Ministry of Commerce for the department for administrative legal affairs. He was also the legal representative of the Ministry of Commerce at the Patent Court. As a councilor, which he became in 1900, he took over the management of the administrative department for waterway construction in 1901 and organized the waterway construction department. In this role he was also responsible for planning the Danube-Oder Canal , for example .

In 1903 he became section head . In 1905 he moved to the Post Office Savings Bank , where he became director. In 1910 he received the title of governor . The Postsparkasse achieved a high international reputation under him, and in Germany it also developed into the center of state money transactions.

In 1912, Schuster moved to the Stürgkh cabinet as Minister of Commerce . However, he only held this position for a short time before returning to the Post Office Savings Bank in 1915. When he left the ministerial post, he was raised to the rank of baron . He resigned from the PSK in 1926 when it was overshadowed by the postal savings bank scandal.

Schuster was not only recognized as a lawyer, Schuster was also active in art. He was one of the founding members of the Wiener Konzerthausgesellschaft in 1908.

Schuster von Bonnott was married to Johanna von Wittek, Heinrich von Wittek's sister . His brothers were the lawyer Maximilian and Gustav.

He is buried at the Perchtoldsdorf cemetery .
