The Roman Catholic parish church Tobaj is located in the center of the municipality Tobaj ( Hungarian : Tobaj ) in the district of Güssing in Burgenland . It is dedicated to St. Florian . It is a parish of the Deanery Güssing . The church is a listed building .

history

The Tobaj parish has been an independent parish since 1942. Before that it belonged to the parish Deutsch Tschantschendorf from 1788 to 1874 and later to the parish Güssing .

The current church was built in 1878. It was restored in 1973.

Architecture and equipment

The niche altar

The church is a single-nave building with a three-storey western tower with a pointed helmet. The choir is retracted and has a flat, rounded apse. The ceiling in the nave has three bays. Between the double belt arches, which rest on double pilasters, there is a square vault . The gallery has three axes and is vaulted under the square vaults. It has a bulging parapet. The triumphal arch is rounded. In the choir bay the ceiling is a barrel vault with stitch caps . In the apse there is a cap vault.

The altar dates from the second half of the 18th century. It is a “niche altar” with staggered columns and an attachment. The altarpiece shows St. Florian.

The side altar was created at the end of the 18th century. It is a flat wall with a niche. In this is a folk pietà made of wood.

The pulpit dates from the end of the 18th century.
