Parish church Güssing
The Roman Catholic parish church of Güssing stands away from the old town of Güssing ( Hungarian : " Németújvár "; Croatian : " Novigrad "), east below Güssing Castle in the old cemetery in the Güssing district in Burgenland . It is consecrated to St. James and belongs to the Deanery of Güssing in the Diocese of Eisenstadt .
history
The small Romanesque church made of clay bricks with corner blocks was built around the year 1200. A restoration took place between 1962 and 1964.
architecture
The church has a rectangular nave, a low, drawn semicircle apse and a Baroque roof skylights. There is a notched frieze on the northern eaves cornice . There are three Romanesque windows in the south wall and an original arched window in the apse . The sacristy and mortuary chamber are attached to the south. The west portal is Romanesque. The nave has a flat ceiling and a two-storey gallery , the storeys of which are arched with a cross vault and supported by continuous pillars, so-called “tower pillars”. A Romanesque, partially supplemented scale frieze is located above the round arched triumphal arch .
Furnishing
The altar block is Romanesque, but has a newer cafeteria. There is a grave slab under the gallery, dated 1620.
