The Roman Catholic parish church in Zeltschach in Zeltschach (municipality of Friesach) is consecrated to the Apostle Andreas . The church was first mentioned between 1060 and 1088 as the own church of the noble Ernustus, the father of the second Gurk bishop Berthold von Zeltschach . Erhard Paumgartner , who later became Bishop of Lavant , was one of the clergymen working in Zeltschach .

Building description

The church is a stately Gothic building with a Romanesque tower from the third quarter of the 12th century. Between the nave and the choir, the church was historicized around 1900 . The tower has a twin acoustic window with a Romanesque central column in the east of the bell storey. One bell was cast by Georg Fiering in 1605, and another by Lorenz Pez in 1653. The one-yoke choir with five-eighths ended in the 14./15. Century renewed. The nave from the second half of the 15th century is supported by striking, stepped buttresses . The west portal with keel arch is richly profiled and has a tracery tympanum. To the right of it is a stone, Gothic offering box. The south portal is simpler. A Gothic sacristy is attached to the north side of the tower and a Baroque sacristy to the south side .

In the single-nave, four-bay nave, a late Gothic net rib vault rests on semicircular templates with capitals in relief . The keystones in relief depict, among other things, a lion, the Lamb of God , a pelican and the tools of suffering . The flower and tendril paintings from around 1500 have been partially supplemented. The three-axle, star vaulted western gallery has tracery and Fialengliederung on. In the south wall of the nave there are slender, late Gothic tracery windows with pointed arches and two round windows. The square of the tower and the end of the choir have ribbed vaults .

Facility

The high altar from 1756 bears the figures of Saints Andrew, Johannes Nepomuk and Franz Xaver and a trinity group in the top . On the left side altar is a figure of the Madonna and on the right the statue of St. Sebastian . The crucifixion group above the triumphal arch was created around 1700. The Gothic baptismal font is crowned by a carved, late Baroque baptismal group . The church also features console figures of Saints Johannes Nepomuk, Florian , Rochus , Jakobus, Oswald , Donatus and a holy bishop.
