One day during the Holi festival , Gopal pours paint on Shanta, as is the custom. Shanta, however, is outraged that Gopal ruined her expensive sari in this way. Gopal did not expect this reaction and is offended. Mainly because he knows that he can't buy her an expensive saree with his current earnings. After this incident, Gopal disappears from Shanta's life, leaving behind a pregnant wife.

The years pass and the child becomes the beautiful woman Santoshi. She promptly falls in love with the young doctor Suman and marries him. After a few days, Shanta moves in with them and becomes a danger to the young marriage. Above all it bothers Suman, who feels controlled by Shanta's presence. Again and again there is a verbal argument.

Soon Suman tells his problems to the head of a mental hospital, Dr. Effendi, where he also works. Dr. Effendi is related to Shanta's family and tries to help Suman by telling him Gopal's story.
