PF Sloan

PF Sloan (born Philip Gary Schlein ; born September 18, 1945 in New York City , New York - † November 15, 2015 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American singer and songwriter.

Life

Songwriter

After the Schlein family settled in California in 1957, Philip Gary Schlein quickly became known in the Los Angeles music scene . As a songwriter under the stage name PF Sloan for the record label Dunhill Records , he wrote numerous titles for established musicians, including hits like Kick That Little Foot Sally Ann ( Round Robin ), Eve of Destruction ( Barry McGuire ), You Baby ( The Turtles ) and Secret Agent Man ( Johnny Rivers ). Sloan also created, sang and produced songs for the band The Grass Roots , e.g. B. Where were you when I needed you , later also a hit in the charts by Herman's Hermits . A Must to Avoid , another hit of this band, was also written by him. Singer-songwriter Jimmy Webb wrote a song called PF Sloan for the 1970 album Words & Music .

Singer

As a solo artist and singer of his own pieces, PF Sloan stood out particularly in the late 1960s and early 1970s. During this time he released the albums Songs of Our Times (1965), Twelve More Times (1966), Measure of Pleasure (1968) and Raised On Records (1972). After a long break, the albums Songs of Other Times (1988) and Serenade of the Seven Sisters (1994, only available in Japan) were released. The by Jon scopes album produced Sail Over from 2006 offers a mix of old and new songs. In addition to Jon and Sally Tive, the following guest musicians were involved in Sailover : Frank Black , Buddy Miller , Lucinda Williams , Felix Cavaliere , Tom Petersson and Gary Tallent .
