Philipp (Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf)
Philipp Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf (born August 10, 1570 ; † October 18, 1590 ) was the second son of Adolf I and Christine of Hesse (1543-1604).
After the early death of his brother Friedrich II in 1587, he inherited the duchy at the age of only 17. After lengthy negotiations with the estates, who wanted to retain the character of an election instead of the hereditary homage demanded by him and his councilors , he was finally paid homage in 1590. A few weeks later, Philipp died. Since he was unmarried, his next younger brother Johann Adolf followed him .
He was buried in the crypt in the Schleswig Cathedral .
