Philipp Brückner was born on February 26, 1840 as the son of Jakob Brückner (* 1797) in house no. 19 (today: Marktplatz no. 7) and baptized a Catholic. Brückner attended elementary school in Burgkunstadt, in the old bailiwick, for six years. He took up the profession of farmer and was mayor of Burgkunstadt from 1881 to 1902.

From June 1898 to June 1903 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency of Upper Franconia 4 (district offices Kronach , Staffelstein , Lichtenfels , Stadtsteinach and Teuschnitz ) as a member of the German Center Party . Since he was only able to collect 47% of the votes in the first round of the Reichstag elections on June 16, 1898 and thus missed the absolute majority, he had to vote against the SPD candidate, the Nuremberg-born editor Johann Scherm (* 1851 ; † 1940) from Lichtenfels, which he won.

In the Burgkunstadter district of Weidnitz , a street in Philipp-Brückner-Straße was named in his honor in the second half of the 20th century .
