Philipp Helmer

Philipp Helmer (born May 24, 1846 in Trippstadt , † May 18, 1912 in Olching ) was a German artist.

Life

Philipp Helmer came from a family of craftsmen from Tyrol , who had lived in Trippstadt since around 1770 . In 1864 Philipp Helmer went to Munich to train as a sculptor . He caught the attention of King Ludwig I , who granted him a scholarship to visit the Munich Academy . There he was a student of the painter Wilhelm Leibl and later Wilhelm von Lindenschmit . From 1906 he lived in Olching as a freelance artist.

The Pfalzgalerie in Kaiserslautern owns a number of paintings by Helmer. She had dedicated a memorial exhibition to him in 1926.
