Philipp Marbach (also Marbacchius ; born April 29, 1550 in Strasbourg ; † September 28, 1611 ibid) was a German Lutheran theologian .

Life

Marbach is the son of the Strasbourg theologian Johannes Marbach . He first studied in his hometown of Strasbourg. He then studied at various German Protestant universities, from 1570 at the University of Basel , from 1571 at the University of Tübingen , then at the University of Frankfurt and finally from 1572 at the University of Rostock . He had already obtained his master’s degree and received the degree of Lic. Theol. In Rostock in 1573 .

Marbach initially had a job as rector in Graz , at the landscape school in Eggenberger Stift. In 1579 he followed the call of Elector Ludwig VI. from the Palatinate as professor of theology to the University of Heidelberg . After the elector's death in 1583, he was unable to stay in Heidelberg as a Lutheran theologian. Therefore, he again accepted a rector's position in Klagenfurt . When his brother Erasmus Marbacher (1548–1593) died, he took over his chair at the Strasbourg Academy , which his father had previously held.
