Philipp Schmid (born November 29, 1971 in Stuttgart ) is a German radio presenter and musician .

Life

Schmid received his first musical training with the Stuttgart Hymn Choir Boys . In 1989 he founded a. a. with Thomas Laske and Andreas Weller the a cappella group “Stuttgart Harmonists”, which still performs now and then. After graduating from Eberhard-Ludwigs-Gymnasium in 1991, he completed his community service in the children's hospital Olgahospital in Stuttgart.

From 1992 to 1997 he studied school music (majoring in piano) at the State University of Music in Karlsruhe . Even during his studies he worked as an entertainment and bar pianist and participated in various CD productions as a studio musician. Two CDs have been released with his jazz trio “Trio de Janeiro”. In 1997 he started the postgraduate course “Radio Music Journalism” at the LernRadio Institute of the Karlsruhe University of Music, which he graduated in 1999 with a diploma. Philipp Schmid lives in Hamburg, is married and has two daughters.

After working as a freelancer for various ARD broadcasters, Schmid moderated the morning broadcast on Radio Ostallgäu in Kaufbeuren from 2000 to 2003 . In 2003 he switched to Bayerischer Rundfunk and moderated the classic show for young people, April 19, as well as the early morning show “Allegro”. Philipp Schmid has hosted the program “Klassisch in den Tag” at NDR Kultur since 2004 , where he plays the piano himself now and again as a special element.

On NDR television he participated in various documentaries, together with Julian Sengelmann ("Julian & Philipp - The Chore Experiment") or with Heike Götz ("Pilgern im Norden"). Since 2015 Philipp Schmid has been commenting on the “Last Night of the Proms” for the cultural radio stations of ARD and NDR television, succeeding Rolf Seelmann-Eggebert .

  • 2018: Award in the "Best Moderator" category at the German Radio Prize.
