Andreas Weller (* 1969 in Stuttgart ) is a German tenor .

Life

Andreas Weller grew up in Stuttgart-Vaihingen . His mother worked as a church musician, his grandfather Hans Grischkat was a conductor, professor of choir and orchestral conducting and founder of the Swabian Symphony Orchestra , today's Württemberg Philharmonic . Andreas Weller received his first singing lessons at the age of eight with the Stuttgart Hymn Choirboys under the direction of Gerhard Wilhelm . He attended the Fanny-Leicht-Gymnasium in Stuttgart-Vaihingen and in 1989 was one of the co-founders of the boys' choir collegium iuvenum Stuttgart under the direction of Michael Čulo .

Weller began his vocal studies with Bruce Abel at the State University for Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart , where he also studied choir and orchestra conducting. From 1998 to 2000 he completed an artistic postgraduate course with James Wagner at the University of Music and Theater in Hamburg , which he completed with a lied diploma. From October 2000 to February 2002 he was a student in James Wagner's solo class at the Lübeck University of Music. In 2005 he completed his studies in Christoph Prégardien's soloist class. With Irwin Gage , he completed the postgraduate course in Lied-Duo together with his piano accompanist Götz Payer at the Zurich University of Music .

Andreas Weller has worked with Frieder Bernius , Marcus Creed , Daniel Harding , Thomas Hengelbrock , Philippe Herreweghe , Hartmut Höll , Konrad Junghänel , Ton Koopman , Sigiswald Kuijken , Jun Märkl , Helmuth Rilling , Masaaki Suzuki , Roger Vignoles , the King's Singers and Les Arts Florissants . He has performed at various international music festivals, including the Agora Festival in Paris, the Wratislavia Cantans Festival in Breslau, the Festival de Wallonie in Namur , the Resound Festival of Contemporary Music in Edmonton, the Schaffhausen International Bach Festival , the European Church Music Festival Schwäbisch Gmünd, the Soundstreams Festival Toronto or the Festival van Vlaanderen and the Festival Bach de Lausanne .

Andreas Weller has participated in numerous CD productions (Carus, BIS, harmonia mundi france etc.) and has won numerous competitions. In the 2007/2008 season he sang among others. Joseph Haydn's The Seasons under the direction of Pierre Cao in Fontainebleau and the Cité de la Musique in Paris, Johann Sebastian Bach's Mass in B Minor , conducted by Ton Koopman with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in Munich and Bach's St. Matthew Passion with the St. Thomas Boys Choir Leipzig under led by Georg Christoph Biller in Japan and Korea. Performances at the “Festival Klang & Raum”, Bach cantatas in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam under the direction of Frans Brüggen, Ludwig van Beethoven's Missa solemnis in the Philharmonie Essen , Johann Sebastian Bach's Christmas Oratorio with the Combattimento Consort Amsterdam and Jan Willem de Vriend, Bach's St. John Passion with The RIAS Chamber Choir under the direction of Hans-Christoph Rademann as well as the St. Matthew Passion with the Dresdner Kreuzchor and Roderich Kreile and with the Bachkoor Holland and the Concertgebouw Kamerorkest under Roy Goodman are other activities.

In 2010 he made his debut with the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich under the direction of Masaaki Suzuki and in September 2011 he sang Joseph Haydn's The Creation and Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 under the direction of Bruno Weil at the “Klang & Raum” festival in Irsee. In 2012 he performed a concert opera production by Ermanno Wolf Ferraris Die curierigen Frauen with the Munich Radio Orchestra under the direction of Ulf Schirmer in the Prinzregententheater Munich. Tours with Christoph Prégardien and Helmuth Rilling, among others, have taken him through Europe and South America in recent years. During the summer semester of 2012, Andreas Weller took over a vocal professorship at the Trossingen University of Music .

Awards

In 1999, Andreas Weller won first prize at the Elise Meyer Competition in Hamburg and the Michel Singing Competition in Hamburg. In 2002 he received a grant from the Baden-Württemberg Art Foundation for his previous artistic work . In 2004 he was awarded the Kiwanis Music Prize of the City of Zurich (together with his lied duo partner Götz Payer). He was also a prizewinner at the 13th International Bach Competition in Leipzig.
