Philipp Strauch

Philipp Strauch (born April 23, 1852 in Hamburg , † September 20, 1934 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German specialist in German .

The son of a Protestant businessman first studied law and later German at the universities of Heidelberg, Berlin and Strasbourg. In Strasbourg he received his doctorate in 1876. phil. After studying in Munich, Vienna and Berlin , Strauch completed his habilitation in 1878 in Tübingen for German studies. In 1883 he became an associate professor, in 1887 he was given a scheduled associate professor. In 1893 Strauch went to the University of Halle-Wittenberg , where he became a full professor in 1895 . 1912-13 he was rector of the university. Retired in 1921, he was, however, the Ephorus of the Wittenberg charities for many years .

Strauch worked primarily in the field of medieval literature and especially German mysticism .
