career

Born in 1967, Philippe Albert began his professional career in 1985 at SC Charleroi , where he played until 1989. In 1987 he also made his debut for the Belgian national team . Albert's five-year stint with the Tynes was overshadowed by injuries and he only played 96 games. Nevertheless, he is still considered one of the club's most popular foreign players. His greatest moment is a goal he scored against Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel from 40 yards (just over 36½ meters) in 1996 . With Albert Newcastle won the runner-up in 1995/96 and 1996/97 .

After Ruud Gullit became the team's new coach in 1998, Albert was only used six times. He was briefly loaned to Fulham FC . In 1999 he left the club and moved back to Belgium to Sporting Charleroi .
