Philippe Léger

Philippe Léger (born October 10, 1938 in Charenton-le-Pont ) is a French lawyer and was Advocate General at the Court of Justice of the European Communities from 1994 to 2006 .

Career

Philippe Léger initially worked as a magistrate in the French Ministry of Justice from 1966 to 1970 . He became head of the cabinet and then in 1976 a specialist advisor in the cabinet of the Ministry of Quality of Life. From 1976 to 1978 he worked as a specialist advisor in the French Ministry of Justice and then until 1983 as a deputy director for criminal and mercy matters. 1983 to 1986 he was a judge at the Cour d'Appel de Paris , the appellate court in Paris . In 1986 he was Deputy Head of the Cabinet of the Ministry of Justice. This was followed from 1986 to 1993 as President of the Tribunal de Grande Instance in Bobigny . A tribunal de grande instance roughly corresponds to a regional court in Germany. In 1993 and 1994 he was Head of the Cabinet of the Minister of Justice and also Advocate General at the Cour d'appel de Paris. In addition to these activities, Philippe Léger was also assistant professor at the René Descartes University in Paris from 1988 to 1993 .

From October 7, 1994 to October 6, 2006 he was Advocate General at the European Court of Justice. During his time as Attorney General, he dealt with, among other things, cases relating to junk property , the transfer of passenger data to authorities in the USA , but also cases relating to tax law .
