Philippe Takla

Philippe Takla (born February 3, 1915 in Zouk Mikaël , † July 10, 2006 ) was a Lebanese politician and diplomat .

biography

Takla began his political career in 1945 in the constituency of Mont-Liban with the election as a member of the National Assembly (Assemblée nationale du Liban) , in which he was re-elected in 1947 for the constituency of Chouf and in 1957 for the constituency of Baalbek .

Prime Minister Abdullah Aref al-Yafi appointed him to a cabinet for the first time as finance minister between 1951 and 1952. In 1952 he was also foreign minister for the first time .

He then held the office of foreign minister again in 1958 for a few days in the government of Chalil al-Hibri and between 1960 and 1964 in the cabinets of Saeb Salam and Rashid Karami . In 1964 he was President of the Central Bank for a short time . From 1964 to 1965 he was foreign minister in the cabinet of Prime Minister Hussein al-Oweini and in 1966 in the government of Abdullah Aref al-Yafi . In the meantime he was also Minister of Economic Affairs and Minister of Tourism.

In 1967 he was appointed permanent representative to the United Nations (UN) in New York City . He was then ambassador to France from 1968 to 1971 .

Prime Minister Rashid as-Solh reappointed him as Foreign Minister between 1974 and 1975. Most recently he was foreign minister in a government of Rashid Karami from 1975 to 1976. In 1976 he retired from active political life.
