Philosophical Gourmet Report
The Philosophical Gourmet Report (also known as the Leiter Report ) is a subject-specific university ranking by Brian Leiter for the quality of philosophical faculties in the English-speaking world .
purpose
According to its own presentation, the report is based on an anonymous online survey of philosophers who have been nominated as reviewers by Leiter's Advisory Council. The purpose of the report is to advise future Ph.D. -Students, especially those wishing to pursue an academic career in philosophy. The naming Gourmet Report can be traced back to Head's criticism of the controversial Gourman Report . The result of the report was published for the first time in 1989, and it appeared online for the first time in 1996. The university ranking has been published by Wiley-Blackwell since 1997 .
survey
In October 2011 over 300 philosophers worldwide were surveyed online. The survey included 99 philosophical faculties from the USA , Canada , Great Britain , Australia and New Zealand . Among other things, the best programs in each region were selected for evaluation.
The report differentiates between an area-specific and a general university ranking, whereby the sum of the area-specific evaluations makes up the general evaluation. The latter is shown for the English-speaking world as well as for its individual countries.
Ranking results (worldwide, general, top 10)
Almost all of the world's top positions are currently held by universities in the USA . The New York University is considered the best overall university.
