Phocas Nikwigize
Phocas Nikwigize (born August 23, 1919 in Muhango , Rwanda , † probably November 30, 1996 in Goma ) was Bishop of Ruhengeri in Rwanda. He was believed to have been the victim of the Rwandan genocide .
Life
Phocas Nikwigize was ordained a priest on July 25, 1948 . He became Bishop of Ruhengeri on September 5, 1968 . The Apostolic Nuncio in Rwanda and Pro-Nuncio in Uganda Amelio Poggi consecrated him on November 30 of the same year as bishop ; Were co-consecrators André Perraudin MAFR , Archbishop in Kabgayi and Joseph Sibomana , bishop of Ruhengeri. On January 5, 1996, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
He was probably abducted and killed on November 30, 1996 by the Rwandan Patriotic Army (RPA).
