The Bistum Kabgayi ( lat. : Dioecesis Kabgayensis ) is in Rwanda preferred Roman Catholic diocese based in Kabgayi . It includes the districts of Kamonyi , Muhanga and Ruhango the Southern Province .

history

Pope Pius XI founded the Apostolic Vicariate of Rwanda on April 25, 1922 from cessions of territory of the Apostolic Vicariate Kivu . On February 14, 1952, it took the name, Apostolic Vicariate Kabgayi.

With the Apostolic Constitution Cum parvulum it was elevated to the rank of Metropolitan Archbishopric on November 10, 1959 . On April 10, 1976, it was downgraded with the bull Cum Venerabiles to a suffragan diocese of the newly established Archdiocese of Kigali .

It lost parts of its territory in favor of the establishment of the following dioceses:
