Physcia aipolia is a type of lichen that ismore common in Central Europe andcolonizes tree bark.
description
The rosette bearing of Physcia aipolia is whitish to white-gray and reaches a maximum diameter of 6 cm. In contrast to the very similar Physcia stellaris , the bearing is dotted with white (especially visible when wet) and the pulp is colored yellow with potassium hydroxide. The dark brown to black, mostly frosted apothecia with a thallus-colored edge occur frequently.
distribution
Physcia aipolia grows on the bark of preferably free-standing shrubs or deciduous trees, often also in forks of branches and tree tops. It is absent in areas with higher levels of air pollution.
