Physochlaina physaloides is a plant type from the genus of Physochlaina in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae). The species occurs in Asia.

description

Physochlaina physaloides is a perennial plant. It forms an almost creeping, ascending rhizome that can reach a diameter of 0.8 cm. The few stems grow upright, the plant branches through side shoots that grow from the leaf axils. In the lower area the plants are hairless, in the upper area they are woolly hairy with angled trichomes . The hair is even thicker on the peduncle and the calyx . The base of the plant is covered with scaly leaves that fall off during flowering. The leaves are completely or broadly wavy, the leaf blade is ovate or heart-shaped and pointed to the front. It reaches a length of 1.5 to 7 cm and a width of 1 to 6 cm. The base is strongly tapered and merges into a triangular petiole that is almost as long as the leaf blade.

The inflorescences are terminal and form leafless, grape-shaped groups that stand on short inflorescence stalks. The calyx is woolly hairy, 6 to 8 mm long and 2.5 to 3 cm wide at flowering time. On the fruit it enlarges, becomes membranous, broadly ovate to almost spherical and has a reticulate veining with ten longitudinal veins. The calyx throat and calyx teeth do not enlarge on the fruit. The crown is two to three times as long as the chalice. It is purple in color, funnel-shaped and has a wide, almost bell-shaped, five-lobed coronet. The inside of the corolla tube is hairy. The stamens are hairless and slightly shorter than the crown.

The fruit is a spherical capsule that is 1 cm in diameter and has a small, flat lid. The seeds are light yellow, dotted and spherical-kidney-shaped, the radicle is swollen. The seeds reach a diameter of about 2.5 mm.
