description

Physochlaina semenowi is a perennial plant. It forms a large, heavily branched rhizome. The stems are relatively strong, grow upright and reach heights of up to 35 cm. The plants are faintly hairy with yellowish rust colored, angled trichomes . The hair is denser towards the top, the hair on the peduncle and the calyx is particularly noticeable . The leaves are alternate. The leaf blades are triangular-ovate with a wedge-shaped or almost heart-shaped base, the surfaces are more or less hairy. The edge is entire, wavy or curled. The tip is pointed or slightly blunt. The leaves reach a length of 5 cm including the petioles .

The spherical-headed, densely packed inflorescences are terminal, are 3 to 7 cm long, are densely hairy and nodding or almost nodding. The flowers are almost sessile and are up to 1 cm long. The calyx becomes up to 0.5 cm long and is tubular-bell-shaped, weakly lobed with triangular, slightly blunt lobes and wider than the crown . This is narrow tubular, somewhat broader at the base and at the throat. The stamens are beyond the crown.

The fruits and seeds are similar to those of Physochlaina orientalis and Physochlaina physaloides .

The flowering period extends from May to June.
