Pia Heinemann

Pia Heinemann (* 1975 in Duisburg-Rheinhausen ) is a German science journalist . Since 2018 she has directed the department "knowledge" of the weekly newspaper Welt am Sonntag and the daily newspaper Die Welt .

Career

After graduating from the Krupp-Gymnasium in Duisburg-Rheinhausen in 1994, Heinemann completed a biology degree with a focus on neurophysiology and neurophysiology at the University of Tübingen ; For her diploma thesis in 1999 she examined sudden infant death syndrome with the help of radioactive markers in certain brain regions of rats . From 1999 to 2001 she completed a postgraduate course in journalism at the University of Mainz . She then worked at the journalism seminar of the Institute for Journalism as a research assistant and doctoral candidate in the field of print journalism at Volker Wolff . At the same time she wrote as a freelance journalist, for example for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung , the Süddeutsche Zeitung , brand eins , dpa-AFX and McK Wissen . With a dissertation on "Publishing strategies for knowledge magazines", Heinemann was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD.

In 2007, Heinemann became editor in the "Knowledge" section, which until 2014 was responsible for the editorial departments of the daily newspapers Die Welt , Berliner Morgenpost and the weekly newspaper Welt am Sonntag . In 2010 she was appointed deputy head of the department, and in 2018 she took over the management of the department.

In 2017 and 2018, Heinemann was nominated for the Georg von Holtzbrinck Prize for Science Journalism .

Heinemann is married and lives in Berlin.
