Pier Luigi Rachele

Pier Luigi Rachele (* 24. November 1935 in Foggia ) is an Italian diplomat in retirement .

Education

In 1958 he graduated from the University of Cagliari with a degree in political science .

Career

In 1961 he joined the foreign service. From 1964 to 1971 he was Vice Consul in New York City and First Class Legation Secretary in Helsinki . From 1971 to 1973 he was employed in Rome. From 1974 to 1977 he headed the Sub-Saharan Africa department . From 1978 to 1982 he directed public relations in Washington, DC , where he was appointed second class envoy in 1983. From 1984 to 1991 he was employed in Rome. In 1988 he became Deputy Head of Personnel Administration. In 1990 he was appointed Ministre plénipotentiaire . From 1991 to 1995 he was ambassador to Tel Aviv . From 1995 to 1996 he headed the Migration Department. From 1997 to October 1999 he was on the staff of the Secretary General, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (Italy) . From October 1999 to April 12, 2003 Italian Ambassador in Vienna .
