Piero Nappi (born December 3, 1955 in Naples ) is a former Italian racing driver .

Racing career

Piero Nappi only raced sporadically, but his career lasted almost 30 years. It had its first international engagement at the 6-hour race in Mugello in 1977 , a race of the sports car world championship of that year . Together with his compatriot Cosimo Turizio , he drove a Ford Escort , which failed after 44 laps due to a defect in the intake manifold injection . After a brief engagement in the Formula 2 European Championship in 1981 , Nappi only competed in GT and sports car races .

He became a specialist for the Vallelunga circuit , where he competed in the 6-hour race every year until the end of his career in 2006 . His best placement at this event was seventh in 2001 . In 1996 he drove a Ferrari F40 GTE together with Robin Donovan and Tetsuya Ota at the Le Mans 24-hour race , which failed after 129 laps with an engine failure.
