Pierre-Henri Gourgeon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pierre-Henri Gourgeon (born April 28, 1946 ) is a French manager . From January 1, 2009 to mid-October 2011, he headed the French-Dutch airline Air France-KLM as President-directeur général .

Gourgeon is a graduate of the École polytechnique , the École nationale supérieure de l'aéronautique et de l'espace and the California Institute of Technology .

As a close companion of Jean-Cyril Spinetta , his predecessor as CEO at Air France-KLM, he was involved in the reorganization of the French state-owned airlines in the early 1990s. Together with Spinetta, he also pushed through the merger of Air France with the Dutch KLM . Before that, he made a name for himself as a top civil servant in various socialist governments in the 1980s. Among other things, he became General Director of the Direction générale de l'aviation civile (1990–1993).

In 2012, the Parti socialiste made manager salaries a campaign issue. The new French President François Hollande let his new Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault take measures to implement his campaign demand ("The boss may only earn twenty times more than the employee with the worst salary").

Gourgeon is said to forego his severance payment of 400,000 euros. The shareholders at the General Meeting approved this with a large majority. From a purely legal point of view, the money can no longer be taken away from him, but the public pressure from the government, the media and the public is high. For example, Finance Minister Pierre Moscovici said : "Pocket 400,000 euros just to avoid hiring with the competition is indecent. Morality demands that he personally refund the money."
