Pierre-Joseph Le Groing de la Romagère (born June 28, 1752 in Saint-Sauvier , Département Allier , † July 26, 1794 in Rochefort ) was a French priest who was imprisoned on a ship during the reign of terror at the time of the French Revolution and died there. He is venerated as a blessed in the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Pierre-Joseph Le Groing de la Romagère came from an old Berry family in central France. He was the son of Count Charles Le Groing de La Romagère (1725–1796) and his wife Claire Mulatier de La Trollière. He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Bourges , where he was appointed vicar general . His younger brother Mathias Le Groing de La Romagère also became a clergyman and was bishop of Saint-Brieuc after the end of the Revolution .

On October 1, 1995, Pierre-Joseph Le Groing de la Romagère was beatified by Pope John Paul II .
